Sofia Sami
Sofia Sami is a Strategy Associate with REALPOLITECH. Sami comes to the team with a background in legislative affairs, youth politics, and political advocacy.
Sami began her career as an undergraduate, leading a seven-member staff in her student government and teaching a University Studies grassroots-organizing course, LobbyCORE, on her campus.
Sami has been heavily involved in the higher education advocacy sphere in California. While working with the board of a statewide organization, Sami analyzed bills, crafted legislative strategy, and lobbied state legislators.
Sami continued her commitment to public service by working as a Legislative Assistant to Councilmember Patrick O’Donnell of the City of Long Beach. In addition to advising the Councilmember on legislative matters, Sami managed outreach to an economically diverse constituency of 50,000.
Sami is also a passionate advocate for disability rights and accessibility. Sami was selected to work with the Burton Blatt Institute in Washington, DC, where she conducted a study on media images and public perceptions of people with disabilities. Sami’s corresponding paper was published as an appendix to a prominent academic’s Durfee Foundation Stanton Fellowship project. Later, Sami worked on litigation, election law, and voter outreach issues at Disability Rights California, a federally-mandated law firm that provides advocacy services for people with disabilities throughout the state. Sami also completed an externship with the Cancer Legal Resource Center.
Sami currently serves as an Editor of the Los Angeles Public Interest Law Journal and is the Membership Director of the Los Angeles County Young Democrats.
Sami holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in both English and Anthropology from the University of California, Irvine, and is currently pursuing her Juris Doctor at Loyola Law School.
